When adults establish that they’re a secure and trusting base for each other, and meet each other’s needs, they will feel OK to go out into the world, and explore and try things.
This is one beautiful thing about having or working towards having secure and safe relationships whether in love, business, friendship or family.
I recently hosted a retreat in Italy, and this became profoundly obvious – strangers arriving from all over the world and within hours, there was a base level of trust, acceptance and curiosity about and for each other.
Was it luck? No.
It was considerate “matchmaking”.
Building communities of people that can function in this way does take effort and specific rapport building skills, and the outcome of “matchmaking” is genuine friendships built with mutual respect with support and care for one another.
When you have the sense that someone is there for you, what would taking more risk look like or feel like?
